“Buy Fresh, Buy Local”
Celebrate National Agriculture Week and stop by the Ag Sustainability Day event on the 4th floor of the State Capitol today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
We will have booths and displays from Hawaii farmers and others in the agriculture industry including the Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation, the Hawaii Department of Agriculture (HDOA) and the UH College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources (UH-CTAHR). Booths will feature a diverse array of fresh local products and a farmers’ market. All proceeds from the farmers’ market will benefit the Hawaii Food Bank.
This is a great opportunity for legislators and the public to learn about the benefits of buying local grown products, exciting new developments in Hawaii agriculture, and sustainability on our island home.
Currently, Hawaii imports over 85 percent of the food we eat. A recent study by HDOA and UH-CTAHR indicates that replacing just 10 percent of imported foods with products grown locally here in Hawaii could generate up to $94 million for local farmers, approximately $188 million in revenue and create 2,300 jobs.
Come support our local farmers!
