WAI‘ANAE COAST COMMUNITY FOUNDATION COMMENDED BY SENATE

Honored for their selfless and generous efforts and for “coming to the rescue” for their

community, the Wai‘anae Coast Community Foundation (WCCF) was recognized by members of the Senate.

The Wai‘anae Coast Community Foundation’s mission is to enhance economic development and cultural values of the Wai‘anae Coast, and to develop programs and opportunities that give children, seniors, and families in crisis the tools they need to overcome challenges they face.

When the Toys for Tots Program was on the verge of collapsing in 2015, the WCCF stepped in and today collects toys from the U.S. Marines and others and oversees sorting and distribution of the toys to impoverished children.

The WCCF also resurrected the “Sunset on the Beach” event when funding had stopped and now plans to stage the event every two years. WCCF also supports the After-School All-Stars Hawai‘i, the NFL-YET Hawai‘i – Boys and Girls Club of Nanakuli, which provides an after-school sports program for students in grades 4,5, and 6 a three elementary schools in Nanakuli. WCCF provides coaching staff and has funded the entire sports program.

Recognized on the floor today were Patty Kahanamoku-Teruya, WCCF President and Director, Keoki K. Aiwohi, WCCF Vice President and Director, Emmanuel Silva, Food Bank and Toys for Tots Warehouse Project Manager, Lara Pangan-Chun, Hale Ola Hou volunteer, and John Dudoit, volunteer with Makana O Ke Akua.
