Senator Lorraine Inouye (Dist. 4 - Hilo, Hamakua, Kohala, Waimea, Waikoloa, Kona) is holding a talk-story Town Hall Meeting to provide an opportunity for residents of her district to weigh in on bills, funding requests, grants-in-aid and hot topic issues that are working their way through the 2018 Legislature. There will also be an important discussion on the spread of Little Fire Ants on Hawai‘i Island. The Town Hall is Monday, February 26, 2018 from 5-6:30 p.m. at Paniolo Country Inn in Waimea.
“We’re doing what the Legislature’s mandatory recess was intended to accomplish – holding a public meeting back in my district with constituents,” said Sen. Inouye. “It’s even more important to do this for neighbor island districts where the public has a much harder time with feeling their voices are heard,” she said.
“While the Public Access Room and legislative website enable constituents to track bills and advocate for their issues and concerns, there’s nothing quite like a face-to-face conversation,” she said. “I hope many will join us,” she said.
While most of the town hall will be focused on the status of legislation, Sen. Inouye, who is a long-time farmer, has invited Carolyn Dillon, founder of the Little Fire Ants Hui, to brief guests on how to detect and avoid introducing the Little Fire Ants (LFA) to their homes, gardens, farms and ranches and what to do if they discover the presence of the invasive pests.
LFA test kits will be given away to meeting attendees and light refreshments will be served.
